My first session with the therapist was yesterday. It was a lot of what I expected. Questions about my life, my childhood, what I think my problems are. Then, when our hour was up, she handed me a Keirsey Temperament Sorter II form. My homework was to fill it out, have my husband fill one out and bring them back next week. Since I am on a quest to find out what plagues me and learn more about myself, I was excited to get started. According to the test, I am catergorized as an ENFP, which is an Idealist. I am classified as what they call a "Champion." Ironic, since I always feel like I am failing at everything I do. Anyway, here is what the potrait of Champion says:
Like the other Idealists, Champions are rather rare, say two or three percent of the population, but even more than the others they consider intense emotional experiences as being vital to a full life. Champions have a wide range and variety of emotions, and a great passion for novelty. They see life as an exciting drama, pregnant with possibilities for both good and evil, and they want to experience all the meaningful events and fascinating people in the world. The most outgoing of the Idealists, Champions often can't wait to tell others of their extraordinary experiences. Champions can be tireless in talking with others, like fountains that bubble and splash, spilling over their own words to get it all out. And usually this is not simple storytelling; Champions often speak (or write) in the hope of revealing some truth about human experience, or of motivating others with their powerful convictions. Their strong drive to speak out on issues and events, along with their boundless enthusiasm and natural talent with language, makes them the most vivacious and inspiring of all the types.
Fiercely individualistic, Champions strive toward a kind of personal authenticity, and this intention always to be themselves is usually quite attractive to others. At the same time, Champions have outstanding intuitive powers and can tell what is going on inside of others, reading hidden emotions and giving special significance to words or actions. In fact, Champions are constantly scanning the social environment, and no intriguing character or silent motive is likely to escape their attention. Far more than the other Idealists, Champions are keen and probing observers of the people around them, and are capable of intense concentration on another individual. Their attention is rarely passive or casual. On the contrary, Champions tend to be extra sensitive and alert, always ready for emergencies, always on the lookout for what's possible.
Champions are good with people and usually have a wide range of personal relationships. They are warm and full of energy with their friends. They are likable and at ease with colleagues, and handle their employees or students with great skill. They are good in public and on the telephone, and are so spontaneous and dramatic that others love to be in their company. Champions are positive, exuberant people, and often their confidence in the goodness of life and of human nature makes good things happen.
It was really cool to read about my traits and why I love to write and be open. I feel like this is a first step toward my self discovery. I encourage you all to do this exercise and learn more about yourself: www.keirsey.com After you take the test, come back here and share your results. It will be fun to find out more about the guests here at the Innsane!

I am a guardian! That was very interesting! Thanks for sharing that!
I am an idealist, too, though I can't see paying them $ to find out what kind.:) I would say counselor by the looks of it, but can't be sure.
I am an idealist too! And you so obviously are not failing, so don't be so hard on yourself!
idealist here too....I don't have to pay to know it is either counselor or healer. ;)
I'm a Guardian. It was almost eerie to read about myself like that. I wish you the best of luck on your journey. I don't think I could face a deep searching of myself right now. You are a very strong person to undertake such a task.
I am a Rational. Reading the definition scared me a little, I feel like I should be taking over the world. That was fun, thanks for sharing!
I am an Idealist. The test itself had me tearing up it was so accurate and idicitive of my daily life struggle between being rational and emotional. This was an eye opener..thank you :)
I am an idealist too!
I am also an idealist.. posting it to my blog! Thanks for this Kadi!
I am an idealist as well! By knowing you through your blog, that sounds like you. I think I have taken this test before. I was a psych major at one time and my father is a psychologist so he has tested me since I was little. A little scary! HUH! Thanks! That was interesting and it did help me to understand my complex self a little more. Good luck on your self-discovery and understanding through counseling.
I'm a Guardian.
Kadi~you are totally a champion.
xoxoxo
I am an artisan..it says
Artisan
Artisans are the temperament with a natural ability to excel in any of the arts, not only the fine arts such as painting and sculpting, or the performing arts such as music, theater, and dance, but also the athletic, military, political, mechanical, and industrial arts, as well as the "art of the deal" in business.
Artisans are most at home in the real world of solid objects that can be made and manipulated, and of real-life events that can be experienced in the here and now. Artisans have exceptionally keen senses, and love working with their hands. They seem right at home with tools, instruments, and vehicles of all kinds, and their actions are usually aimed at getting them where they want to go, and as quickly as possible. Thus Artisans will strike off boldly down roads that others might consider risky or impossible, doing whatever it takes, rules or no rules, to accomplish their goals. This devil-may-care attitude also gives the Artisans a winning way with people, and they are often irresistibly charming with family, friends, and co-workers.
Artisans want to be where the action is; they seek out adventure and show a constant hunger for pleasure and stimulation. They believe that variety is the spice of life, and that doing things that aren't fun or exciting is a waste of time. Artisans are impulsive, adaptable, competitive, and believe the next throw of the dice will be the lucky one. They can also be generous to a fault, always ready to share with their friends from the bounty of life. Above all, Artisans need to be free to do what they wish, when they wish. They resist being tied or bound or confined or obligated; they would rather not wait, or save, or store, or live for tomorrow. In the Artisan view, today must be enjoyed, for tomorrow may never come.
There are many Artisans, perhaps 30 to 35 percent of the population, which is good, because they create much of the beauty, grace, fun, and excitement the rest of us enjoy in life.
Artisans at Work
Artisans seek to make an impact upon the organizations where they work and upon society at large. Their alertness to current realities, the joy they take in variation, and their tendency to follow their instincts to 'what works' make them good troubleshooters and negotiators, talented performers and craftspeople and excellent leaders in all kinds of emergencies and chaotic situations.
On the job, you are apt to have an extraordinary memory for facts and details, as well as superior powers of observation. Ideally, the work you choose will make use of these vast databanks of knowledge and impressions. In the workplace, you can be excited by the chance to capitalize on opportunities others don’t perceive, and applying information to present or emerging challenges.
Kadi, i think you are wonderful.

I am an artisan...that was a fascinating!
That was FUN and I also took this test in college and I am STILL an Idealist (Counselor) and it was so nice to read all this again...thanks kadi!
OK, I re-took the test on more sleep without screaming children around, and this time it said I am an Idealist. That sounds more like me, I did not think I related to Rational at all.
So glad that you all enjoyed this post! :)
