The message of our priest at mass today was how to use what you have to do something great. I found it very similar to the message in the book "Cure For The Common Life." He spoke about not having to be an extremely talented person or very wealthy person, to do great things in life. All it takes is the willingness to give whatever it is that you have and you will be blessed and prosper.
At one point during the homily, he mentioned hormones. I forget why now, because what happened next made me want to crawl under my chair and die. Phillip heard the word hormones and turned to me. I saw the confusion in his eyes as he asked (in a very audible voice) "Mom, is that those things that make your butt hurt when you poop?" I tried to whisper back to him and shut him up, but before I could start my sentence, Marlie chimed in, "No, those are what makes Mom cry when she has her period, but hemorrhoids make Mom cry too." I thanked them both and told them that we would talk about it in the van, on the way home. Then I mopped up my dignity off the floor and tried to remain emotionless, despite the thousand eyes on me.
The whole population of the cry room was staring at us and I think I was crimson with embarrassment. Daniel came walking back in from the restroom and totally missed the whole episode. Doesn't matter, he probably wouldn't believe me even if I told him. It was one of those, "Did that really just happen?" moments. Why did I ever think that I needed to read a book about having a common life? God is clearly using our lives to make others feel better about their own short comings!

Oh my! I'm crying WITH you - not AT you :)
Kadi, I had to copy and paste that on Jo's site. Don't sue me for that okay? I just had to share it, it is so funny!
Love, Christy
oh MY god!!! It is amazing what kids will say ( harmless intent), but embarrasing none the least. You handled it like a pro. :)
I'm sure that was mortifying, but I SO needed that laugh! Thanks!
